 Leonie Cloete

Leonie was born on a farm in the Northern Cape and grew up as part of a family that loved music.  Some of her fondest memories are those of singing with her cousins while washing dishes during family gatherings.  Her high school piano teacher further instilled and nurtured her love for music.  Leonie spent her school years in the small town of Van Rhynsdorp.  She is the youngest of two siblings and has always been the one trying something new and exploring the unknown.  Her school career was one of the best experiences in her life and to quote: “If I had to choose again, I would go to school in the countryside where the schools are smaller with far less children than in city schools.  You are treated as an individual with lots of personal attention which is so important during the initial years of a child’s life.”

Since she was young she has been interested in music and often entertained her family by playing on her father’s guitar or the piano during evening family time.  She sang in the school choir in primary school, and also took piano lessons throughout her school career.  From childhood the church played a large role in developing her love for music by giving her the opportunity to play the organ during services.

On completion of her school career, she spread her wings and relocated to the fairest Cape.  She started working for a large insurance company although this was not her ultimate goal in life.  In the Cape she joined a church where she connected with a network of musicians and since then, for the past fourteen years, she has been singing in various gospel groups.

She loves working with teenagers and became involved in teaching the bible study class at church.   Leonie further loves being in nature and you can always find her participating in hiking trips with friends, or involved with some outdoor event.  She believes that “Nature is where you feel closest to God.  When you spend time in nature, one tends to have better conversation with God."

Through her experience of working with a diverse set of people, she realized that while we on earth only have a short and fleeting life, that if you are committed to do God’s work He will direct you according to His predestined plan for you.  Through a lot of prayer and by God’s will she made a decision to follow her dream by starting her own business in health and wellness.  This was one of the biggest decisions of her life, but she says this is only the beginning and who knows what the future might hold.

Approximately four years ago she met up with a few friends and they started a singing group based on their joint love of music, but God had another plan, and that is how the group ‘Voices for Christ’ was formed.  “God gave us all different musical talents; therefore we must give Him praise. I hope this will encourage you in your daily walk with God.”
