 Marinda Wallace

With sleep-heavy eyes, she would look at the shadows dancing on the bedroom wall as the candle on the table threw its light into the room.  The sound of her mom singing at the piano would drive all the night-scares away and she would fall asleep…dreaming.  Little-girl-dreams of forever staying on the farm with her pet lambs and goats; of puppies and kittens and monkeys and daydreaming high up in the giant oak trees or looking down at tiny tadpoles in the clear fountains.  Of Dad’s games between the rows of corn that towers high above our heads, or a mielie braai under the moonlight with her younger sister and brother, listening to Dad's stories while the flames light up the forest around them.  At sunrise you could find two little girls standing on a rock, singing a welcome to the new day.

It was always with mild surprise, at being asked to sing in church, that they would launch into learning a new song.  Her parents and grandparents were always very involved with the children’s upbringing.  She says, “From my Dad I learned to be fair, to think something through before I acted; to think out of the box; to be creative and to stand up for what I believe".  “My mom taught me hard work and excellence in everything I do as well as everyday survival-skills. She was also instrumental in shaping my choice of careers when I grew up”.  “My grandma taught me cleanliness and how to make a bed like a Sergeant Major! (She used to be a nurse.)”.  “Grandpa was our haven when he spotted trouble on the horizon. He would whisk us off to the Airport to go see the airplanes”. “Above all, my family loved the Lord.  We never went anywhere without Him, and that is what I treasure most of all!”

She went to a church-school and was very involved in the choirs, singing-groups and bands.  She learned to play the piano and the trumpet and is currently busy mastering the pan flute.  After completing her school-career, she studied Occupational Therapy at the University of Stellenbosch, but realized after a year that a career in Interior Design suited her creative nature more.  When she completed this course she went on to study Pattern Making and Grading.  It was during this period that she married the man of her dreams.  They started a family four years later.  She worked in a boutique in Pretoria for two years after which she started her own business, supplying clothing to boutiques.

They moved to Cape Town when their eldest son was but a few weeks old.  Another four years later, they had another boy.  “We tried to instill in them the same values that we grew up with.  First and foremost, to love God and then to love your neighbour as yourself.”

She is currently running her own business, making exclusive clothing and wedding dresses as well as dabbling in event-planning.  She is very involved in her local church with music, teaching and flower arranging.

“Music has always been a part of my life and my lifelong prayer of being used in God's work has just reached a highpoint when we completed this CD to glorify God's name.
